Founded by Georg Adam Mangold in 1881 in Fuerth (Germany), the company already produces tin animals by 1882. The company experiences strong growth in the twenties and the name "GAMA" is officially entered as a protected trademark and registered brand in 1924. Until the end of the thirties, 70% of production is destined for foreign markets. After the war, Gama belongs to the first German manufacturers who produce toys again with the permission of the Allies. A large part of the modest production in the first years following the war is made up of car models manufactured under a Schuco license. The assortment grows ever larger in the fifties and Gama becomes, in addition to Arnold (see Arnold), Neuhierl and Tipp & Co., one of Schuco's (see Schuco) largest competitors. while former rivals fail, Gama survives and later even acquires Schuco's remaining stock. The Gama and Arnold companies are taken over by Märklin towards the end of the nineties, Schuco remains in the possession of the Mangold family. All Gama pieces proudly carry the company symbol.
